Its offically spring outside so no more treadmill training for me. It's getting close to the race and I really need to start training outside, on the pavement with hills so I can get used to it! I got my map for the race in Central Park, it wraps around the park twice then starts up a third lap before finishing out. It even shows where the water and gatorade stations are...and most important apparently, the restrooms! Sweet!
Day 28, March 9: Allison and I met up after work to do a run around post. I left my car up at Michie and jogged down to her place, picked her up then we started our journey. Back up the hill past Michie, down Stony, through Cadet area back to Allison's house. By then I was EXHAUSTED, and forgot I had to run back up the hill to get my car. Rats. I ran 4.47 miles in 43:29, average 5.31 and 11:16 mile time! Whoa, faster than I thought. Love this running outdoors gig.
Day 29, March 11: First time running outside alone. Thought there would be a motivation factor with that and turns out I was right. I slowed down and walked a little more, but overall finished and that is the important thing! I ran 5.52 miles in 1 hour and 3 minutes, speed of 5.19 and mile time 11:33 average! I'm feeling more confident in my running abilities, and the farther I go the more I know I can finish this race!
Day 30, March 13: 30 days I've ran (mostly), thats an entire months worth of runs, not too bad! It was POURING down rain when I woke up in the morning, I could here it pitterpattering on my skylights. I was contemplating going to the gym to do my run, but I knew I was suppose to do a long run. Then my friend reminded me where I was from, and the fact that it rains 9 months out of the year there. Dur. So i grabbed my gear, but on my hot pink running zippy and headed out. I decided to veto the big Mills hill, since nothing that crazy is in Central Park, and picked a nice hilly route. I ran from my house all the way to Keller Hospital and back, 7.43 miles later and I had succeeded. I ran it in 1 hour and 23 minutes. NO IDEA HOW I DID THAT. Especially since I ran 6.23 miles the previous saturday only 6 minutes faster. 11:16 mile, 5.32mph. Obviously I'm running a lot faster off the treadmill. My race is SIX WEEKS AWAY, so it's almost game time!

Week Nine
Slacker lately and letting life get in the way of my running too much! That and the snow really messed up with my running routine. I have to remember I can't let things get in the way. This race is so important to me and I want to finish with a decent time, I can't let other things overshadow my running.
Day 25, March 2: Went out with Allison so didn't go to the gym...again.
Day 26, March 4: Made it to the gym and ran 2.5 miles in 32:24. Was cramping up and couldn't breath very well, not sure why. It could have been because I hadn't had a good workout in a while. I need to work those things out SOON! Average mph was 4.77 and ran a 12:34 minute mile.
Day 27, March 6: GORGEOUS SPRING DAY! Blue skies and 55 degrees, so I got my running shoes on and decided to finally run outside. I met a lady from work at Thayer Gate and we ran to Lee gate and back, I ran 6.23 miles! I have NEVER ran that far, it felt so great at the end. I finished in 1 hour and 17 minutes. I ran an average of 4.76 mph and my mile time was 12:34. So comprible to what I was doing on the treadmill, with a more beautiful landscape. The hills were hard though, I had been running on 0% incline on the treadmill, so hilly West Point was a challenge. I found this AWESOME website called mapmyrun.com where you can make your own runs, see how far you're going and input the time, it will calculate everything else. I can even save my runs for future dates! http://www.mapmyrun.com/view_workout?w=381126823244058146

Week Eight
Day 22, Feb 23: Really added to the distance and ran 4.9 miles. On the treadmill too, talk about long and boring! Ran it in one hour 54 seconds at a 4.82 pace, about 12:25/mile.
Day 23, Feb 25: CODE RED. It snowed two feet so we had code red and the gym was closed. For two days. It was not exciting. I did walk to West Point in the snow which is about 1 mile each way. Good calf workout.
Day 24, Feb 27: Still snow on the ground but the gym was open so did about 3 miles on the treadmill. 36:34 minutes. Thought I was going to go back and finish up the rest I had left but got lazy...need to work back into it!
